Mystical and, at the least, intriguing, Iquitos attracts the eyes of everyone who knows it more closely. With a population of 400,000 people, the city draws attention for being quite rustic and for being a constant invitation to adventurers on duty. It’s impossible not to surrender to the transformations of scenarios so conflicting with each other. In order to reach the capital of the Peruvian Amazon, you will see rivers, a tropical forest and, suddenly, a maze of sometimes bumpy streets. The region is a port and has access only by water or air. Being a little more isolated, Iquitos has simpler communities, which live along the river, and need greater contact with other cultures and customs. It is certainly a very good place to teach and learn new habits and lifestyles.

PROJECT DETAILS
Joining this program will make you fall in love with nature because there is no better way to love a culture than being a part of it. You will be accommodated in a basic home stay where the members are descendants from the Kukama Kukamiria ethnicity. Their day starts pretty early feeding their animals, going to the farm to pick up firewood to cook, and carrying water. During the day the host families spend their time preparing the natural fibers to make handbags, bracelets, dream catchers, masks and painting. Volunteers help their host families in their daily activities. The life in this rural town is basic; you will not find the amenities you are used to. Volunteers have the chance to help a unique rural community to develop their projects towards a sustainable future while experiencing an amazing culture and language.
Volunteers have a very personal experience with a flexible approach, which guarantees that different activities can be chosen and tried during their placements. This is perfect for those wanting to immerse deep with nature and explore the joy of simple ways. Your host family will teach you about wild plants used for medicine, food, and tools and will show you beautiful and relaxing views.

Schedule
You will volunteer 5 days per week (Monday – Friday) from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
You will have the weekends off, so you can explore the city.

Volunteer's Task
Helping host family in daily activities.
Requeriments
he minimum period for volunteering is 1 week.
Language: Basic knowledge of Spanish.
Payment
Deposit A 50% deposit is required to confirm your booking once your application form has been accepted. The remaining 50% of your payment is due 1 month prior to your arrival. Banking details will be provided upon confirmation of your application.
Changing
Changing Projects: If you wish to change projects in the same location (for example, if you were confirmed on an education project but then decide to join a caregiving project), you can do so as long as you are more than 30 days prior to departure and the new project has space for you. If the volunteer is confirmed for the new project, there will be a US$50 change fee.
Changing Dates: If you want to change dates once you have been confirmed on your placement, you can do so as long as you are more than 30 days prior to departure and the new project has space for you on your new dates. If the volunteer is confirmed for the new project, there will be a US $25 change fee.
Cancellation Policy
If the volunteer needs to cancel or shorten their trip between 30 and 1 days prior to departure, there will be no refund of fees for any reason.
